Welcome
Welcome to our Top Ten Pending U.S. Cyberlaw Cases blog. Some of you may be wondering who we are, why we’re doing this, etc. Here’s some info on that:
Why a Top Ten Blog?
Keeping up with all the pending cyberlaw cases in the U.S. courts is a full-time job. Every day there are more and more to follow and watch. Each has a particular issue or impact. We’ve put together this blog to share our thoughts on which cases are the most important to watch and what impact they might have on the future of cyberlaw.
What is cyberlaw?
Broadly speaking, cyberlaw is law affecting networked information environments. This includes the Internet, most software and web services, databases, and most other information systems. It also includes the social, political, and economic aspects of these systems.
Who are you?
We are lawyers who teach, research, litigate, and write about developments in cyberlaw. Our bios are on our About page.
What about legislation, administrative, and international cases?
In looking at all the possible candidates, we found it was difficult enough to limit ourselves to ten U.S. cases, so we’re focusing there for now. But the other forums are very important and we would encourage others to cover them in other blogs.
How do you choose your cases?
Top Ten lists are always subjective, but we generally use four criteria to evaluate the importance of a cyberlaw case:
- The impact on the development of a key area of law;
- The impact on the development of a key area of technology;
- The impact on the development of a key area of social/public policy; and
- The amount of media attention and interest that the public has already taken in the outcome of the case.
Can I recommend a case for consideration on the Top 10 list?
